Tips to recover from Google Penguine updates

First Panda and then Penguin update, Google is all set for penalizing the not so good quality sites. Rankings of sites who are following black hat SEO techniques, not following Google webmaster guidelines and mainly the ones who are over optimizing have fallen down.
This has made many marketers to re-think their strategies in an effort to tone down their SEO efforts. But the question arises where to draw the line between optimization and over-optimization.
google_panda_penguin
So to make your assessment easy I have summarized few key factors that Google are likely to consider when evaluating a website over optimization.

Tip 1: Re-Check Your Websites Title Tags

Is your Title tag a list of your targeted keywords? Then you are the next victim of Google update. So to avoid that change your spammy looking title tags to something little more readable. Tr
y to keep your title tag character in the limit prescribed in Google guidelines. It is but natural that you will lose some rank by altering your title tag but that is better than getting penalized by Google. Best practice would be to make separate pages for your keyword and then add then in the title tag of the appropriate page.

Tip 2: Do not Stuff Meta Description With Keywords

As for title tag same goes for the description tag, make it a readable one by human with proper sentence optimized using your keywords. However it description tag does not contribute much in ranking algorithm but still it’s better to be safe then caught by Google.

Tip 3: Get Rid Of Spammy Backlinks

Google has strictly laid down in all its update that quality of backlinks is more important than its quantity. So if your backlinks are coming from some non relevant sites, spun articles, link farms, or other bad neighborhood then you can be in trouble.
So trackback all the links and remove the ones with poor quality and non relevant content. Or going other way around build more strong profile of good, high quality links from relevant content sites.

Tip 4: Make Links with Variation of Anchor Text

If most of your links are with same exact match anchor text the Google will find you guilty of making automated links. So try to make links manually using variations of your anchor text. Also do not make links of same type and from same site again and again. Try to get variation in link type also. Do not give Google a chance to think that there is something fishy in your backlink profile.

Tip 5: Keep Your Website Footers Neat and Clean

Many websites follow the pattern of putting the anchor text links of their internal pages and other not so important pages in their footer. If you are also doing that, stop right now. It’s time to clean your footers now. This looks spammy to search engines. It is advisable to build internal linking structure through your page content. Optimize your page content with the anchor text of other page and hyper link them.

Tip 6: Avoid Duplicate Content

If you are targeting same keywords on more number of pages it looks spammy to Google. Try to consolidate the pages with similar content. For e.g. a page discussing Cell Phones and another page offering content related to Mobile Phones means the same. This has been done to capture the traffic using the anchor text. Try to combine both use virtually same keywords or anchor text on the same page.

Tip 7: Make Proper Use Of Keyword Density and Keyword Proximity Concept

Optimizing web content with targeted keyword does not mean overstuffing of the keyword in the paragraphs and headers. Properly follow the keyword density according to the content used on the page. Spread your key phrases evenly in your content.

Tip 8: Focus on Effective User Experience

Whatever strictness Google is following is all to provide good quality of results to the end users. So try to please and satisfy your visitors, it will automatically bring you in Good books if Google. So make concentrate all your efforts in providing effective user experience. Let their visit to your site a satisfactory one. They should be able to find what they came looking for using the keyword they queried in Google.
So if you are the one who has been penalized by Google for over optimization then follows these tips and reduces your casualty to some extent. And the ones who are still not caught by Google can use these to get out of the radar.

Best SEO strategy after Penguin Update

The SEO community is discovering more and more No-Nos every day! Every time a new theory about the Google ranking algorithm is formed, something happens to disprove it, leaving us all back at square one. The reality is that even some of those sites that avoided the No-Nos have been hit as well.
Nonetheless, the official list of post-Penguin No-Nos:
  • Don’t over-optimise your website copy, and avoid keyword stuffing and (as Belinda said in her last blog post) excessively highlighting (just) keywords.
  • Avoid low-quality and low-relevance links. Google particularly mentioned links that are contained in content with no relevance (i.e., spammy or highly spun content).
  • Don’t use just one “money keyword” as the anchor text of your incoming links. (It’s been found that sites that had >60% of link as just one keyword were penalised.)
  • Similarly, don’t use that money keyword with internal linking; e.g., change your menu from “where to buy blue widgets” to “where to buy”.
To be honest, it’s the same stuff that Google has said from day one. All that has changed is that (it appears) they are now slapping you on the wrist if you DON’T adhere to their golden list of No-Nos. This, however, opens the door to Negative SEO.

Can you explain what negative SEO is and how Penguin changes how negative SEO affects websites?

Up until recently Negative SEO was a form of reputation management; you couldn’t de-rank a website, but you could push it down by ranking with more favourable content. However, now that Google has implemented a penalty for certain factors, they have (intentionally or unintentionally) opened the door to Negative SEO where it IS possible to de-rank a website.
By purposely building a lot of low-quality and spammy links to a competitor’s website, you can trigger Google’s “iron-fist” reflex and your competitor’s website will start to drop in rank. What’s that saying? If you can’t beat them, sneak up and cut their legs off.

Is this something that every website owner should be worried about?

No, I don’t think so. I think we’ll see it in play in the more competitive niches, but not at the general level.
In addition, even in the SEO black hatters’ world, the topic of Negative SEO has been made taboo. Apparently, despite their willingness to cheat and manipulate Google, they have a conscience when it comes to other businesses/websites who’ve worked hard to get where they are!
Bottom line, I think you would be struggling to find an SEOer who would be willing to engage in Negative SEO for business reasons. There’s an ethical grey area here: Is it wrong to sabotage another business’s marketing, or is it right to employ your full arsenal for the benefit of your clients?
I think (for now) it’s a clear-cut NO! Don’t do it. But I also think that will change if Google doesn’t take steps to reverse the open door that is Negative SEO.

How can people check if their website has been affected?

Keep an eye on your rankings; either use software or just check them yourself. (Remember to de-personalise your search – Chrome’s ‘Incognito Mode’ is best for that.)
If your website drops more than a spot or two and doesn’t bounce back, then you can probably start to worry. From there your only real chance of recovery is a plea to Google via their reconsideration request.
Do you have any tips for business owners who have (or want) SEO as part of their long-term marketing strategy?

Why, come see me of course!

It’s vital to diversify your SEO efforts now. You can’t target just one money keyword and go gung ho at it. However, this makes it a lot harder to target and rank on the main competitive terms in your industry. Yes, yes, that does make SEO a lengthier and costlier process!

If you’re not already, get on the social media bandwagon; it’s suspected that social signals are playing a bigger role now than ever before.

Lastly, should you decide to engage an SEO consultant – choose carefully!
Chris Bates is an online marketing consultant who loves your business as much as you do. Through years of research, testing and experience, Chris has developed a wealth of knowledge and loves to help your business get more business, online. You just need to decide to get more business online, and then leave the rest to him. Find out more at octoply.com.au

How To Make Your Own Website - Easy Step By Step

How To Create A Website

Do you want to learn how to build a website for yourself?
Just follow these 5 simple steps to learn how to create a website for yourself:
1- Register A Domain Name
2- Host Your Website
3- Change Name Servers At Domain Registrar
4- Install WordPress CMS In Just A Few Clicks
5- Configure WordPress and Publish Your Website
Yes, it’s that easy. Just follow these 5 given steps, and you can learn how to make a website in no time.

1- Register a Domain Name

A good domain name(www.yourname.com) is a must for any business, or even if you are creating a personal website.

If you have a registered a firm with a name say Stigma Solutions then register a domain name like stigmasolutions.com or stigmasolutions.net

If those names are not available then you can use some stop words like global, online, etc.. Therefore, you can register domain name like stigmasolutionsglobal.com or stigmasolutionsonline.com, etc. You can even add City or State names at the end like stigmasolutiontexas.com. There are a lot of ideas, and you just need to think over what suits your business. You can even register an unrelated name like mycoolwebsite.com
To register a domain visit GoDaddy.com as its the best and most reliable domain registrar in the world, and you can easily register domain name under $12. We register all the domains for our clients through GoDaddy only as we know that our domain names are fully secured with them.
Here are a couple of Godaddy Screenshots showing How to Check Domain Name Availability & Start Domain Registration Process
godaddy-domain-registration.jpg
Screenshot 1 – Check Domain Name Availability at Godaddy Homepage
godaddy-available-domain-name.jpg
Screenshot 2 – After you click on GO button as in Screenshot 1, you will get this screen on next page to complete your order

2- Host Your Website

After you have registered your domain name as in Step1, you need to host your website.
In order to publish your website on WWW(Word Wide Web) you need to purchase a web hosting account so that you can upload your website online. You can even create professional email ids like anthing@yourdomain.com through a web hosting account.

A Company that provides you web hosting service is known as Web Host or Web Hosting Company.
HostGator is one such web hosting company, which is very reliable and offers hosting plans to all types of users. It’s very important to choose a reliable hosting company as if their hosting server goes down then your site will also become offline and your visitors would not be able to open your website which seems to be very embarrassing. So never go for cheap hosting companies as at first it sounds good but in a long run, you will only lose time and money with such cheap hosting companies.
Therefore, we highly recommend HostGator as its trusted by thousands of website owners, and they have a very strong server uptime record, and their support staff too is very friendly and fast.
However if you are looking for cheaper but reliable hosting option then you may also try hosting at TheWebBrains.com .

You can select from any of the plans given there.

Screenshot 2 – After you click on Order Now button as in Screenshot 1, you will get this screen on next page to complete your order.
Enter your domain name and click on Continue To Step 2 to make the payment and complete your purchase.

3- Change Name Severs At Domain Registrar

After you have purchased Web Hosting Account you need to modify Domain Name Servers at your domain registrar who in our case is GoDaddy.
Once you get Hosting Account Login Information email from Web Hosting Company, i.e. HostGator in our case than in that email you will also find the name server details like:

ns1.hostgator.com
ns2.hostgator.com

NameServers usually start with letters ns like ns1 or ns15 or ns3233, etc and should be two or more NameServers in number. If you are unable to find it then contact your web hosting company through phone or email, and they will inform you the name servers being allotted to your hosting account.
Once you have the Name Servers then login to your GoDaddy Domain control panel from www.GoDaddy.com
godaddy-logged-in.jpg
1- After you are logged in Go to an option on top menu named Domains–> Domain Management
You will get list of all domain names you have registered with Godaddy.
godaddy-change-domain-name-servers-1.jpg
2 – Click on your Domain Name there.
godaddy-set-name-servers-2.jpg
3 - Then on next Page Click on Option Nameservers–> Set Nameservers
godaddy-name-servers-3.jpg
4 - There select the Last option i.e. “I have specific nameservers for my domains.”
Enter the 2 nameservers you got from your web hosting company e.g. Hostgator.
Click Ok.
godaddy-final.jpg
5 - And on next page you will get a confirmation message like:
“Your changes have been submitted.

These changes usually take 2 hours. However, it may take up to 48 hours for these changes to take effect. These time frames are estimates and not guaranteed.”

In case if you are unable to change the Name Servers then just contact GoDaddy, and they will provide you instructions on how to do it.

However, after changing the NameServers, you still need to wait for 24-48 hours for Name Servers to propagate around the world and then only your site could be published online.

4- Install WordPress CMS In Just A Few Clicks

WordPress is a CMS and also a Blogging Platform through which you can easily select design/theme for your website and then create pages for your website and publish it online very easily. In order to install WordPress you need to visit cPanel of your hosting account.
After 24- 48 hours since you have changed Name Servers at your Domain registrar as in Step 3, you would be able to open your cPanel hosting control panel through URL like www.domainname.com/cpanel
In above example replace your domainname.com with the actual domain name you have registered for yourself.
If Name Servers are propagated successfully then you would get a popup at above URL, which will ask for username and password for cPanel.
To get Username and Password check the Account Information Email sent by your web hosting company.
fantastico.jpg
1 - Once you are able to login to Cpanel through www.yourdomain.com/cpanel go to option named Fantastico De Luxe and click on it.
fantastico2.jpg
2 - And on Fantastico page, you will find an option named WordPress under the option “Blogs”.
fantastico3.jpg
3 – Click on WordPress and then click on the link named New Installation that appears thereafter.
fantastico4.jpg
4 - And on Next page select your domain name on which you want to install the WordPress and enter some strong password, your email and other requested details there. You can change those details anytime later too from your WordPress Admin control panel once the installation is complete.
Click on “Install WordPress” button to get the final page.
fantastico5.jpg
5 - Finally click on Finish Installation Button and WordPress will be completely installed on your domain.
So now when you will open www.yourdomain.com then you will find a default WordPress blog page with a text like “Hello World!”, ‘Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post.”.
If you see that then it means you have done everything correctly and WordPress is successfully installed.
Sometimes you would be able to see default WordPress page on www.yourdomain.com after a delay of 15-30 minutes or even one hour or more as it depends on hosting company’s server configuration. However, in HostGator accounts, we usually find it immediately after installation.
You may also try to clear your browser cache and cookies if you are still unable to see default WordPress page on your domain.

5- Configure WordPress And Publish Your Website

After installing the WordPress you need to Configure WordPress, Select Design, input Content for your various Pages and Publish.

- To Configure WordPress you need to login to WordPress admin area from www.yourdomain.com/wp-admin

Replace yourdomain.com with the actual domain name on which you have installed WordPress.
There you can login and configure various settings for your website/blog using Settings option there.
- To Select a design go to option Appearance-> Themes -> Install Themes

In install themes option you can select options like Colours, Design width, Subject, etc. and click on FIND THEMES option to get some cool free themes.

Just select the desired theme and click on Install button and after its installed, just activate it.
If you don’t like the newly installed theme/design then install more themes using the same way.

You can manage(activate/deactivate/delete) all your themes from Appearance-> Themes -> Manage Themes option.

- To Publish: Once you have settled with your dream design then go to option Pages -> Add New
There you can give a Page Title/Heading name in First Box and Page Content in Second Large Box. You can change font, colours, etc. from the toolbar in that box. E.g. your first page can be named as Home that you want to display when someone opens www.yourdomain.com.

Once you are satisfied, you can click on Publish button on the right side to publish that page on your website.

In the same way, you can create other pages for your website like About us, Products and Services, Help, etc.

Once you have created your pages then go to option Settings -> Reading
Under option, Front page displays change the Radio button selection from Your latest posts TO A static page.

In the Front Page option select the Page Name, that you want to display as your homepage i.e. the first page that you want to display when someone opens your website at www.yourdomain.com
And click on Save changes button and Congratulations your site is online at www.yourdomain.com
You can do as many numbers of changes as you want to your website like changing designs(themes), adding, deleting, editing pages, etc.

Everything is under your control, and you can update your site as often you wish.

Remember WordPress is a very popular and vast platform that has thousand of designs, plugins and features so just keep on playing with it, and you will learn at least a new cool trick every single day.
So here comes the end of a basic tutorial on how to build a website.

Use of Content Drilldown in Google Analytics Report

This report has very useful information to help Internet marketers optimize websites for the search engines and users. Read this report to find out more about what this report is and how to use it.

Report Overview

The Content Drilldown report can be accessed by logging into your Analytics dashboard, clicking Content and then clicking Content Drilldown. The report looks something like what you see on the left.

This report contains information about the page views, unique page views, bounce rate and % exit for each page in your site. By clicking each page link in the report data, you will be able to get more detailed information on the particular page to help you figure out how your users are finding your content, to help you find the keywords they are using to get there and to help you optimize your landing pages. You will also be able to see a site overlay report for any of the pages you wish, to help you see the highly clicked areas and to put together a bigger picture of the navigation trends of your users.

A more detailed page report looks like what you see on the right. When you click the page link, it will take you back to the Top Content tab as these more detailed reports are available from any content report in the series.

Making this Report Work for You

The information provided to you on these reports is of great use to you because it helps you decide where and what sort of changes need to be made across your site content.

By using the navigation analysis seen on the left, you will be able to tell how each visitor gets to your content. If you look at this factor on the pages you have targeted for advertising, you will be able to judge how well certain advertising campaigns are doing in not only bringing people to your site, but how people are responding to the ads. These are good reports to use in conjunction with the Traffic reports to track your campaigns.

By using the landing page optimization seen on the right, you will be able to better judge the keywords that you should be using to try to rank in the search engines and earn traffic. It will help you in keeping information relevant to your target audience so as to keep them on the page long enough to get them interested in other content, and perhaps making a purchase if purchases are your goal.

The important thing to remember is, regardless of the results that you are seeing, you should analyze and discuss ways to make them better. You should always try your solutions on a trial and error basis so as not to completely alienate and upset the existing traffic base that you have. It will take time, patience and maybe even some user studies, but it can be done.

What is Google Dance & when it occurs?

Search engines in one way or other need to index or categorize web pages based on some criteria so that the search results is reliable to the user who searches for the contents. As google became a popular search engine the importance to site indexing by google was given a great hype.

Google dance is the time period when google sends its spiders to crawl a website to check for its contents, it is said to be happening once in a month, nobody has got any better idea about when google is indexing the web pages. In recent times indexing is done regularly. At this point of time the ranking of a website can fluctuate or dances, when checked on the servers in the data centers of google. Chances of a higher ranked website getting disappeared all of a sudden from (SERP) or Search Engine Resulting Pages is more.

Google has got several data centers and servers now and the google sends its spiders to check the websites from any of these servers. These spiders check for any change in the content of the website even a minor change is reflected as it checks for relevancy of the content and so many other factors like back links, fresh content, keywords, coding standards, domain names, etc.

Google regularly sends a crawler usually known as a “Fresh Crawler” to get the fresh content updated in a website. At longer interval a “Main crawler” checks the data collected by the “Fresh Crawler” as well as the old content already stored in the data centers. Based on both the old and new content as well as the relevancy of the website, the index and page ranks of a website are determined by Google. At the same time the “Main Crawler” updates this information in all data centers of google spread across the globe one by one this time period is called “Google Dance”.

Google usually indexes the pages after a “Google Dance” with an appropriate page rank purely based on the criteria’s google requires. Most of the webmasters look at “Google Dance” with wide open eyes as it’s all about how a website is getting indexed with the worlds number one search engine.

How to Prepare for Interview

It is not very easy to prepare for an interview. The way to crack a job interview is not just by giving answers, but the ‘right’ answers with point to point answers. For explaining answers in better way, the knowledge and the practice of job interview is an essential thing. Often, Interviewees commit one big mistake that is to answer the question which he does not know at all. In this case, simply say, I do not know than giving wrong answer. When the interviewer finds that he is trying to mislead him, he becomes irated and just ignore such a candidate by saying that you will be called later. Here are some important tips on how to get it right.

Create a strong and good looking resume. Build a compelling case on why you fit the job role:
The presentation of your Resume should be attractive and all the academic information should be mentioned in chronical order. The process of giving a job winning interview starts by forming a strong resume. A resume gives first impression in the mind of the Interviewer and works as an entrance test to get an interview. A candidates resume should be clean, concise and convey strong points in fewer words. For example, instead of saying, “I am an exceptional guitarist”, one can say, “I was the lead guitarist of an award winning rock band back in college”.

Collect some information of your potential employer
Every recruiter wants a candiate to have prior knowledge of the organization. So you should collect some basic knowledge about the organization by visiting the websites of the company that you are contemplating joining. it is advisable to do a primary research before going. After all, the employer has lots of interviewees and they have many options to choose other one. Always, try to some extra ordinary that you posses and others not.

Highlight your strengths & experience
During an interview it is important to highlight one’s strengths and experiences that appropriately fit the needs of the role. The employer will be assessing the interviewee’s fitment with the job role, and in order to respond appropriately, one needs to understand the specific needs and expertise relevant to the position one is applying for. Never criticize your current employer: There is a saying ‘whatever goes around, comes back,’ it is never helpful to criticize your current employer and cite that as one of the reasons for changing your job. You may be talking about your prospective employer the same way in the coming years. It is helpful to focus on the lack of challenges in current job fit not being in line with your career aspirations, want of greater responsibilities and the learning opportunities your new employer offers as some of the reasons for seeing a change.

Be confident
One should always remember to be fiercely confident, show willingness and enthusiasm for the job and appear as a genuine person who loves what he/she does.

Prepare and remember new updates
Before the critical day it is helpful to prepare by reading your resume critically, reading up your prospective employer and speaking to your consultant in detail about the job & employer. Remember opportunity knocks only once, better be prepared to interview with it.
